The White Lie Has a Father
You are of your father, the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.John 8:44
Recommended ReadingJohn 8:42-47It’s not always necessary to say all we think, for Proverbs 29:11 says, “A fool vents all his feelings.” Many things are better left unsaid, and many opinions are better left unspoken. The Bible urges us to use words with restraint, to be quick to hear but slow to speak. But when we do speak, it should be with sincere and honest openness. Never allow your words or your silence to create false impressions or deceptive conclusions. Even a little “white lie” is as black as sin.
In the short run, a little lie may seem a useful thing; and if there were no God, any old lie would do. But there is a God of truth, just as there is a devil of lies. God’s Word is truth, and His people are honest. Satan’s word is misleading, unreliable, and never to be trusted.
The language of heaven is honest truth. To defend ourselves in spiritual battles, we must be bearers of the truth.
